THREE FARMERS CAMELINA OIL
THE ONLY ARTISANAL COLD PRESSED OIL OF ITS KIND!
Recently featured on the CBCs' hit television show Dragons Den, Three Farmers Camelina Oil is now available at www.cilantrocooks.com! Originally from southeast Saskatchewan, the idea started with a desire to grow natural, healthy foods, while also protecting the “last best place” on earth. Three Farmers Camelina Oil products are Natural, Sustainableand Traceable and is the only cold-pressed artisan oil of its kind.
Who are Three Farmers?
Three Farmers is a small group of Saskatchewan farmers who are passionate about growing natural and healthy food, as well as being dedicated to providing that personal connection between consumer and producers. This belief has become increasingly important through the years and so Three Farmers have made it possible to simply enter a product code or scan a QR code to a mobile device and allow the consumer to find out exactly who made their oil and where.
What exactly is Camelina oil?
Camelina Sativa is an ancient grain, originating in Northern Europe and Central Asia. Up until the 16th Century, camelina was commonly used as the basis for golden-hued culinary oil; however with the discovery of alternative oils and an international “revolution” in food production and preparation, the popularity of camelina began to fade.
In recent years however, the rediscovery and re-birth of many “Old World” foods in the food and “foodie” culture have created a new market for what we now know as “ancient grains.” These ancient grains and oil seeds have remained untouched and unmodified by time, giving off a taste of the same seeds that were being cultivated centuries ago.
What is Cold Pressed?
All of Three Farmers Camelina Oils are cold pressed which makes them a healthier choice due to the lack of heat and chemicals used in the production process. Cold pressed oils are produced through a combination of grinding and very low heat. The introduction of heat to the process of making most modern oils degrades their flavors, nutritional value and color. In order to obtain the designation of being a cold pressed product, the manufacturer must keep the temperature of the seeds within a certain degree range during grinding.
What are the health benefits of Camelina Oil?
Camelina is a heart healthy product loaded with Omega-3 and Omega -6 fatty acids and antioxidants, which are involved in numerous physiological processes. Including Camelina oil in your diet is as good way to improve or prevent: atherosclerosis, hypertension, arthritis, IBS, dermatitis, asthma, ADHD and even some cancers.
How does Camelina Oil taste?
The flavor of Camelina Oil is described as earthy, nutty and natural. It complements root vegetables, and gamey meats such as deer, lamb and duck the best, however the culinary possibilities are endless. This type of oil blends brilliantly with other flavours instead of losing its own characteristics or overpowering other ingredients.
The versatile properties of Three Farmers Camelina Oils also are reflected in the ability to hold up in the cold (your marinades will not congeal in the fridge) as well as extreme heat (up to 475F), and, due to its strong Vitamin E content it has a significant shelf life (about 18 months.)
